This is an advanced wind technician position to lead our new Small Wind Site Services division focused on providing total care and maintenance to owners of small wind sites.  You must be able to report to our Bradford, Illinois field-operation center on a daily basis with ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally as needed to ensure customers receive prompt and accurate response to service needs.  The desired candidate will be our primary point-of-contact for this new division, should be highly proficient in at least one of more wind turbine control systems, and possess the confidence and ability to reasonably learn and understand new systems that you have not yet experienced. 

The desired candidate will be responsible to learn the function, operation, reporting, remote-monitoring, and remote-control of all existing and new units that fall into our care.  They may range from relatively new units just a few years old to those that are twenty (20) or more years old and have been refurbished.

The desired candidate will be expected to solve problems that range in nature from minor to complex, manage work of yourself and one supporting role (and more as the division grows), provide leadership, schedule service activities, and work with minimal supervision.  It will be expected that you possess advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities and can work independently.

Position Responsibilities:

Mainly, the oversight of total care and maintenance of small wind sites including and not limited to the following;

  • Interact with customers, managers, associates, and subordinates in a positive, people-friendly, and team-spirited manner.
  • Train and mentor a supporting wind technician for this new service line to form our initial small wind site service crew, and others as the division grows.
  • Perform remote and on-site diagnostics, troubleshooting, planned/unplanned maintenance, repairs, scheduled services, and more upon our customers wind turbines.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults and all related systems that inhibit a customer’s wind turbine from full operation.
  • Daily, weekly, monthly, and as-needed reporting.
  • Small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines.
  • Work as scheduled during the week and after hours as may occasionally be required by customers’ needs.
  • Research necessary information including identification, sourcing, and procurement of needed service and repair parts, and supplies.
Additional requirements:
  • Willing to travel and assist other AHI projects and sites when needed between small wind service projects.
  • Possess HS Diploma or GED with 4-8 years of directly related work experience.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Ability to climb wind turbines up to 300ft multiple times daily.
  • Solid familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e. voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools).
  • Ability to report to Bradford, Illinois field-operations center on a daily basis.  (Per-diem is not available unless traveling and away on an overnight project.)
  • Ability to fully understand blueprints and schematics, and all other related documentation that may relate to operation of a customer wind turbine.

Beneficial (but not required) Qualifications:

  • Additional years of wind turbine experience.
  • Experience with technology of multiple wind turbine platforms, including their control systems.
  • High voltage and sub-station maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements.

Travel Requirements:
15-75%, depending upon customer needs.
